Cruzeiro, owned by Ronaldo Nazario, returned this Wednesday to the first division of Brazil after spending three years in the silver category.

The team from Belo Horizonte, one of Brazil’s historic clubs, guaranteed its rise to the elite of Brazilian football with a 3-0 home win against Vasco da Gamain a packed Mineirao stadium, in the presence of its owner.

Ronaldo, who bought the club in December 2021, watched the match from the sideline, celebrated the team’s goals and jumped onto the pitch after the final whistle to congratulate the players.

“This is the icing on the cake. We worked hard to get it”Ronaldo told Brazilian television as soon as the match was over, thanking the players, the technical committee and the fans.

With his victory this Wednesday, Cruzeiro reached 68 pointswith fifteen points ahead of Gremio, second placed, and 20 points over Vasco da Gama, which occupies the fourth and last promotion position.

In 31 days, the blue club of Belo Horizonte has won 20 matcheshas drawn eight and has lost just three, all of them away from Mineirao.

Relegation for the first time in its history in 2019

Cruzeiro is one of the twelve biggest teams in Brazilhas in its showcases four national champion titles and another two from the Copa Libertadores, among other titles.

The club relegated to the second division of the Brazilian Championship in 2019 for the first time in its century-old historyin the midst of a serious financial crisis.

Ronaldo stated that for next year, in the first divisionthe club will face “financial difficulties”but promised to “make up for the lack of money with sacrifice.”

The former player of the Brazilian team, also owner of the Spanish Valladolid, announced in December 2021 the purchase of Cruzeiro, the team in which he became known in his youthwith the aim of correcting the accounts and returning him to his place in the elite.
